Ukraine Expands Veteran Mental Health Network

First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska marked the first anniversary of the nationwide “Recovery” network, which provides mental health services to servicemembers, veterans and their families. She spoke at the second annual conference, “Recovery. An Ecosystem of Mental Health Care,” held on May 14, 2026.

The network currently includes 15 centers in Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Lutsk, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Uzhhorod, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Vinnytsia. Zelenska said she had visited several of the centers and observed cooperation between regional authorities and institutions.

Zelenska said the project had become part of Ukraine’s broader national mental health program and existing recovery and support services. She described assistance for veterans as one of the country’s key mental health needs.

The first lady also called for efforts to reduce the stigma surrounding psychological support. She said recovery should be understood not only as a return to peaceful life for individuals, but also as a process involving Ukrainian society as a whole.
