Police Warn Against Floodwater Driving

Queensland police are warning residents not to drive through floodwaters as heavy rain is forecast across large parts of the state’s north over the coming week.

The reminder follows a January 5 rescue west of Cairns, where a man was winched to safety after becoming stranded on top of a campervan near Wolfram Road.

Police urged residents to monitor local council disaster dashboards and the Bureau of Meteorology’s Queensland warnings. People facing a life-threatening emergency should call Triple Zero (000), while the State Emergency Service can be contacted on 132 500 for non-life-threatening storm damage.

Authorities said motorists should avoid flooded roads and follow official warnings as wet-weather conditions continue.
