Police Warn Against Floodwater Driving

Queensland police are urging residents not to drive through floodwaters as further heavy rain is expected across large parts of the state’s north over the coming week.

The warning follows a rescue on January 5 west of Cairns, where a man was winched to safety after becoming stranded on top of a campervan caught in floodwaters near Wolfram Road.

Police advised residents to monitor local council disaster dashboards and the Bureau of Meteorology’s Queensland warnings for the latest conditions. Authorities also reminded the public that floodwaters can be deeper and faster-moving than they appear.

People facing life-threatening emergencies should call Triple Zero (000). The State Emergency Service can be contacted on 132 500 for non-life-threatening assistance, including storm or roof damage.
