Police Warn Against Floodwater Driving

Queensland police are urging residents not to drive through floodwaters as further heavy rain is forecast across large parts of the state’s north in the coming week.

The warning follows a rescue on January 5 west of Cairns, where a man was winched to safety after floodwaters swept around a campervan near Wolfram Road.

Police advised residents to monitor local council disaster dashboards and the Bureau of Meteorology’s warnings for updates. They said people facing life-threatening emergencies should call Triple Zero (000), while non-life-threatening storm-related assistance is available through the State Emergency Service on 132 500.

Authorities reminded the public that floodwater can conceal damaged roads, debris and strong currents, making conditions dangerous for motorists and pedestrians.
