Police Warn Against Floodwater Driving

Queensland police are urging residents not to drive through floodwaters as heavy rain is expected across large parts of the state’s north in the coming week.

The warning follows a rescue on January 5 west of Cairns, where a man was winched to safety after becoming trapped on top of a campervan near Wolfram Road.

Police advised residents to monitor local council disaster dashboards and Bureau of Meteorology warnings. Anyone facing a life-threatening emergency should call Triple Zero (000), while the State Emergency Service can be contacted on 132 500 for non-life-threatening storm damage assistance.
