Queensland police are urging residents not to drive through floodwaters as heavy rain is expected across large parts of the state’s north in the coming week. The warning follows a rescue on January 5 west of Cairns, where a man was winched to safety after becoming trapped on top of a campervan near Wolfram Road. Police advised residents to monitor local council disaster dashboards and Bureau of Meteorology warnings. Anyone facing a life-threatening emergency should call Triple Zero (000), while the State Emergency Service can be contacted on 132 500 for non-life-threatening storm damage assistance.
