Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine, Moldova and Romania would strengthen cooperation in security, energy, infrastructure and European integration during a joint press conference marking Moldova’s Independence Day. He described the three countries as natural allies facing shared security challenges as neighbors of Russia. Zelenskyy thanked Moldova and Romania for their support of Ukraine during the war and said closer coordination was essential to protect the countries’ independence and development. He cited continued Russian attacks, including air raid alerts in Kyiv and strikes across Ukrainian communities, as evidence of the need for a coordinated response. The leaders discussed energy cooperation and infrastructure linking the three countries. Zelenskyy also highlighted plans to ensure that regional Solidarity Lanes for exports operate at full capacity despite what he described as Russian efforts to disrupt Ukraine’s ports and maritime trade. Ukraine said it was prepared to support the development of Moldova’s and Romania’s security capabilities. Zelenskyy also reaffirmed the countries’ shared goal of joining the European Union, expressing confidence that Ukraine and Moldova would eventually become full members with Romania’s support.
