Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a security meeting in the Zaporizhzhia region on the frontline situation and defensive operations in key areas, according to the Ukrainian presidential website. Senior military commanders and the head of the regional military administration attended the meeting on Aug. 26, 2026. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mykhailo Drapatyi briefed Zelenskyy on conditions along the front. Commanders Andrii Biletskyi of the 3rd Army Corps and Denys Prokopenko of the 1st National Guard Corps, known as “Azov,” reported on fighting in their respective areas and proposed measures to improve the effectiveness of their units. Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration head Ivan Fedorov updated the president on conditions in the region. Zelenskyy instructed officials to strengthen protection for Zaporizhzhia and surrounding areas that support other cities and communities. Drapatyi also proposed creating two groupings to improve the defense of Donetsk region. The groupings will be commanded by Biletskyi and Prokopenko, both identified by the presidential office as Heroes of Ukraine.
