NASA will provide live coverage of a spacewalk scheduled for Sept. 1, when astronauts Jessica Meir and Sophie Adenot will conduct maintenance and navigation upgrades aboard the International Space Station. Coverage will begin at 7 a.m. EDT, with the spacewalk expected to start at approximately 8:30 a.m. and last about six and a half hours. During the excursion, designated U.S. spacewalk 99, Meir and Adenot will replace a retroreflector on the forward port of the station’s Harmony module. The device supports spacecraft navigation during rendezvous and docking operations. The astronauts also plan to install data-relay jumper cables, prepare the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer’s radiator for future maintenance, and replace a high-definition camera on the station’s truss. Adenot will serve as spacewalk crew member 1 and wear a suit with red stripes, while Meir will wear an unmarked suit. The mission will mark Meir’s seventh spacewalk and Adenot’s third. It will also be the 284th spacewalk supporting the station’s assembly, maintenance and upgrades. NASA will stream the coverage at nasa.gov/live.
