Man Charged Over Homemade Firearms

A 38-year-old man has been charged with multiple firearm offences after Queensland police allegedly seized homemade weapons during a search of a Bundamba property in Ipswich.

Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch detectives executed a search warrant at the address at about 4.30pm on August 6. Police allege they found two homemade firearms, including a shortened firearm and a shortened slam gun, along with two homemade crossbows and two homemade firearm silencers.

The man has been charged with three counts of unlawful possession of weapons and one count each of manufacturing weapons while unlicensed and possessing utensils. He is scheduled to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on August 27.

Ipswich Detective Inspector Michael Manago said homemade firearms were unpredictable and posed a significant risk to the community and police. He said officers would continue investigating the unlawful manufacture and possession of prohibited weapons.
