Flying Squad Targets Wide Bay Crime

The Queensland Police Service State Flying Squad charged 45 people with 183 offences during a week-long deployment to the Wide Bay region, supporting local officers with investigations, search warrants, proactive operations and high-visibility patrols.

Officers were based in Bundaberg and Hervey Bay from July 15 to 22, working with local police, tactical crime squads, the Dog Squad and an intelligence unit to identify and apprehend suspected serious offenders.

Among the arrests was a 19-year-old Urangan man, who was charged with obstructing police and wilful damage after police allegedly pursued him from a residence. He was remanded in custody and was expected to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on August 10.

Police also arrested a juvenile in Granville who was charged with 11 counts of stealing, three counts of fraud and single counts of entering and committing an offence, wilful damage and obstructing police. In Kepnock, a 24-year-old man was charged with 56 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, trafficking dangerous drugs and contravening an access order after police allegedly seized drugs during a search warrant.

Detective Inspector Joe Nixon said the squad would continue deploying to crime hotspots across Queensland to support local police and increase visibility in communities.
