Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Finnish President Alexander Stubb discussed strengthening Ukraine’s defenses against Russian ballistic missiles during a phone call on Aug. 5, 2026, according to Ukraine’s presidential office. Zelenskyy briefed Stubb on a large-scale Russian attack carried out overnight and said Ukraine urgently needs additional missiles for air defense systems. He called on partner countries to provide support, saying increased assistance could help save lives. The leaders also discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war. Zelenskyy said continued support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia were necessary to push Moscow toward peace. Zelenskyy thanked Stubb for Finland’s prompt response and expressed appreciation for its readiness to assist Ukraine.
