Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses and advancing its path toward European Union membership during a phone call on Aug. 4, according to Ukraine’s presidential office. Zelenskyy briefed Jetten on recent Russian attacks against Ukrainian cities and communities and thanked the Netherlands for its expressions of support. He said air defense missiles remained Ukraine’s top priority as Russian forces continued using ballistic missiles. The leaders discussed potential Dutch assistance for Ukraine’s immediate defense needs and preparations for the winter. Ukraine’s presidential office said Kyiv welcomed the Netherlands’ willingness to work on practical solutions. They also reviewed recent diplomatic contacts, including meetings in Washington, and discussed Ukraine’s efforts to open four additional EU negotiating clusters. Zelenskyy thanked the Netherlands for supporting Ukraine’s European integration and broader EU enlargement efforts.
