Lockyer Valley Operation Targets Dangerous Driving

Queensland police issued 36 traffic infringement notices during a high-visibility road safety operation across the Lockyer Valley on July 24, including penalties for two motorists allegedly caught speeding more than 40km/h over the limit.

Operation Interpose officers conducted 811 random breath tests and five roadside drug tests while patrolling roads throughout the region. Police said the operation was designed to deter dangerous driving and reduce road trauma.

At Grantham, officers allegedly detected a silver Toyota Hilux travelling at 145km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Warrego Highway. A 22-year-old Yatala man received a $1,986 infringement notice, lost eight demerit points and had his licence suspended for six months.

Later at Hatton Vale, a 20-year-old provisional driver from Bundamba was allegedly detected travelling at 132km/h in an 80km/h zone. He received a $1,986 fine and was charged with driving while suspended. Police later intercepted the same driver in Bundamba, where he allegedly returned a breath-analysis reading of 0.039 per cent. He was also charged with drink driving and driving while disqualified and appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court on July 30. Acting Superintendent Kelly Hanlen said police would continue high-visibility patrols across the Darling Downs District.
