Man Charged Over Roma Counterfeit Notes

A 23-year-old man has been charged after allegedly using counterfeit $50 banknotes at businesses in Roma, Queensland, on July 30, according to the Queensland Police Service.

Roma Child Protection Investigation Unit detectives allege the man used counterfeit notes to buy goods at two discount variety stores and attempted to use another note at a hotel. The attempt at the hotel was unsuccessful.

The man faces four counts of uttering counterfeit currency, three counts of fraud, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils and failing to dispose of a syringe. He is due to appear in Roma Magistrates Court on September 3.

South West District Detective Inspector Andrew Trenerry urged people to check banknotes before accepting them. Police advised anyone who suspects they have received a counterfeit note to handle it as little as possible, store it in an envelope and report it to police.
