NASA Assigns Burnham to Space Station

NASA has assigned astronaut Deniz Burnham to her first mission aboard the International Space Station, where she will serve as a flight engineer on Expedition 76. Burnham is scheduled to launch in March 2027 aboard the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-30 spacecraft with cosmonauts Dmitri Petelin and Konstantin Borisov.

The crew is expected to spend approximately seven months aboard the orbiting laboratory. Burnham will conduct scientific investigations and technology demonstrations designed to support future human missions to the Moon and Mars, while also advancing research with potential benefits on Earth.

Selected as a NASA astronaut in 2021, Burnham completed the agency’s 23rd astronaut class in 2024. She holds degrees in chemical and mechanical engineering and previously managed drilling operations across North America. She also served as an engineering duty officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and is a licensed private pilot.

NASA said the space station remains a platform for research, technology development and preparation for long-duration exploration missions under the Artemis program. People have lived and worked continuously aboard the station for more than 25 years.
