An investigation is underway after a three-vehicle crash on the Gore Highway at Southbrook, west of Toowoomba, on the night of July 22. The highway was closed for about five hours while emergency crews cleared the scene. Queensland Police said a white Holden Commodore was allegedly overtaking a road train at about 8:30 p.m. while negotiating a bend. The car reportedly encountered an oncoming semi-trailer while attempting to return to its lane, colliding with the road train and sideswiping the semi-trailer. The Holden left the highway and came to rest nearby. Police allege its driver fled on foot into surrounding farmland. Three passengers—a Dirranbandi man, 18, a Talwood woman, 19, and an 11-month-old baby—were assessed for minor injuries. The drivers of the road train and semi-trailer were not physically injured. The road train sustained significant damage after one trailer overturned, while the Holden and semi-trailer suffered moderate damage. Police are seeking witnesses, information about the Holden before the crash and dashcam footage from the Southbrook-Pittsworth area.
