Samsung Unveils Next-Generation Smartwatches

Samsung Electronics unveiled the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 at Galaxy Unpacked in London, introducing new wearable features focused on outdoor training, continuous health monitoring and recovery. The company said the devices will expand its digital health platform through updated hardware and Samsung Health tools.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is designed for demanding sports and outdoor activities. It features the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform, an 800mAh battery, a display with up to 5,000 nits of brightness and a 47-millimeter case. Samsung said the model is 12% thinner than its predecessor, while its redesigned band is 26% lighter.

A new Trail Run feature provides elevation data, climbing progress and ascent and descent measurements. The watch can also automatically record depth, dive time and water temperature. Samsung said the device has EN13319 certification for diving instruments, 10ATM water resistance and an IP69K rating. A partnership with diving equipment company Mares will add features such as ascent and descent rates and decompression information, the company said.

The Galaxy Watch9, available in 40- and 44-millimeter sizes, is aimed at everyday health management. It includes a 390mAh battery in the 40-millimeter model and integrates updated Samsung Health features covering activity, mindfulness, nutrition, sleep and vital signs. New or expanded tools include sleep apnea analysis, Heart Health Score, Fitness Index and Daily Cardio Load, which Samsung said can help users track exercise balance and recovery needs.
