A Berserker man faces multiple charges and fines after a two-vehicle collision late Saturday night, according to Queensland Police Service (QPS). The incident, involving a red Holden Colorado and a blue MG ZST, occurred at the intersection of Elphinstone Street and Water Street around 9:43 p.m.

Emergency services responded to the crash site following reports that the Holden had fled after the collision. The occupants of the MG, a woman in her 30s and a man in his 20s, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Rockhampton Hospital for treatment.

The 26-year-old driver of the Holden was apprehended at a residence in Kawana shortly after the incident. He was issued three Traffic Infringement Notices (TINs), totaling over $1200 in fines, for careless driving, failing to fulfill duties after a crash, and driving a defective vehicle. Additionally, he was charged with driving under the influence (DUI).

The Queensland Police emphasized the importance of road safety, reminding the public that enforcement alone is insufficient to curb dangerous driving behaviors. The driver is scheduled to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on July 21.

Queensland Police continue to urge drivers to make responsible choices on the road, highlighting that behaviors such as DUI, speeding, distracted driving, fatigue, and not using seatbelts significantly increase risks to all road users. They reiterated their commitment to any-time, anywhere policing to improve road safety.
