In a solemn ceremony held on Saturday, March 28, at the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NMMC), unidentified Ukrainian defenders were honored and laid to rest. The event marked a poignant moment of tribute to the servicemembers and police officers who perished in the ongoing conflict against armed aggression in Ukraine.

Presided over by Kyrylo Budanov, the Head of the Office of the President, the ceremony also saw the participation of Nataliia Kalmykova, Minister for Veterans Affairs, alongside Deputy Heads Iryna Vereshchuk and Viktor Mykyta. Representatives from the Ministry of Defense and leaders of regional military administrations were present to pay their respects to the fallen heroes.

The ceremony specifically commemorated five unidentified defenders, symbolizing the ultimate sacrifice made for their nation. Decisions regarding the burial of these individuals were coordinated by military administrations from Poltava, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, and Rivne. To date, the NMMC has become the final resting place for 242 individuals, including 172 unidentified defenders, underscoring the profound cost of the conflict on Ukraine and its people.
