A devastating collision on the Centenary Highway near Spring Mountain has claimed the life of a young Purga woman and left a Greenbank man injured. The incident occurred on the evening of February 27, 2026, involving two Toyota Landcruisers traveling in opposite directions. The Forensic Crash Unit of the Queensland Police Service is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Initial reports indicate that the vehicles collided near exit 33 around 5:25 PM. The driver of the purple Toyota Landcruiser, a 21-year-old woman from Purga, suffered critical injuries and was immediately rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries the following day. The other driver, a 23-year-old man from Greenbank, sustained minor injuries and was also treated at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
