Police have apprehended a 17-year-old boy following a daring vehicle theft that led to a high-speed chase across the Gold Coast, ending in a dramatic arrest outside a police station. The incident began at a Worongary shopping center where the teenager stole a black Mercedes-Benz, which also contained a 12-year-old dachshund, from a 48-year-old man on the afternoon of February 18.

According to police reports, the owner of the vehicle was near his car when the youth jumped into the unlocked vehicle and drove away. The owner, who later encountered his own vehicle while driving a black Dodge Ram, was involved in a minor collision with the stolen Mercedes at Palm Beach. No injuries occurred from the crash.

The pursuit continued as police effectively used a Tyre Deflation Device on the Gold Coast Highway to slow down the stolen vehicle, which finally stopped outside the Palm Beach police station around 11 PM. The teenager was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and entering premises. He is set to appear at the Southport Children’s Court.

In a fortunate turn of events, the stolen dog was found abandoned but safe at a Nerang address and has been reunited with its owner. Police encourage anyone with information to come forward and assist with ongoing investigations.
