A 39-year-old man from Mackay has been charged following a fatal accident that claimed the life of an 83-year-old woman in January. The incident occurred on Blacks Beach Road, involving a collision between a Toyota Hilux and the elderly pedestrian.

According to the Mackay Whitsundays Forensic Crash Unit, the tragic event took place around 5pm on January 16. The driver, a resident of Rural View, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation. The victim, also a resident of Blacks Beach, was urgently transported to Mackay Base Hospital with critical injuries and sadly passed away four days later.

The driver has since been charged with careless driving causing death and is scheduled to appear before the Mackay Magistrates Court on March 9. This case highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and the consequences of negligent driving behaviors.

The Queensland Police Service emphasizes the importance of responsible driving, reminding the public that choices made behind the wheel affect not only the driver but everyone on the road. Initiatives and enforcement are continuously being applied to decrease the fatalities and ensure safer road environments for all.
