Police in Hervey Bay have arrested two men in connection with a break-in and theft at a local business in Kawungan earlier today, January 30, 2026. The early morning incident involved significant property damage and theft of various items from the Main Street business, facilitated by the use of three stolen vehicles.

According to the Queensland Police Service (QPS), the break-in occurred before 3 a.m. when the stolen vehicles arrived at the scene. One of the vehicles forcefully entered the business premises, causing substantial damage to both the property and the stock inside. The suspects then fled the area with several stolen items, leaving behind a scene of chaos.

Shortly after the crime, police located two of the vehicles—a blue Mazda3 sedan and a silver Mitsubishi Triton utility—on Gilston Road. Both vehicles were reportedly stolen from a residence in Pialba just hours before the break-in. A 20-year-old man from Maryborough and an 18-year-old man from Wondunna were found with the vehicles and promptly arrested. The 20-year-old faces seven charges, including two counts of entering premises to commit an indictable offence, and will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court tomorrow. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on February 19.

A third suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested this afternoon in Booral and is currently assisting police with their inquiries. The third vehicle involved, a stolen white Mitsubishi Outlander, remains unlocated. Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward and assist by contacting Policelink or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
