Rockhampton detectives, with support from Hervey Bay CIB, have apprehended a 27-year-old man from Victoria following an investigation into a sexual assault incident that occurred near Yeppen Lagoon in The Range, Rockhampton. The assault took place around 10:30 AM on January 25, with the suspect being charged subsequently for multiple serious offenses. The assault was reported shortly after it occurred, and the victim was promptly cared for at a local hospital where she received medical and professional support. A crime scene was established later on the same day near a walking track adjacent to a rugby field’s parking area. Following intensive investigations, the suspect was arrested on January 26 at Boat Harbour Drive, Hervey Bay. He has been charged with three counts of rape and one count of attempted murder, and was denied bail. He is expected to make a court appearance at the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court today. The Queensland Police continue to seek additional information and are particularly interested in any sightings of a dark blue 2008 Toyota two-door hatchback around Yeppen Lagoon at the time of the offense.
