Police in Queensland have charged a 33-year-old Warabrook man with grievous bodily harm following an early morning altercation at Hope Island on January 5, 2026. The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a missing dog, resulted in serious injuries.

Just before 2am, authorities were summoned to a service station on Broadwater Avenue after a 55-year-old man from Illawong sought help. The injured man had been at a nearby tavern with the accused prior to the incident. According to police, the altercation occurred on Halcyon Way, leading the victim to sustain severe facial injuries. He was treated at the scene and later transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, where he is scheduled for surgery.

The suspect was arrested at a nearby location following police investigations. He is set to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court later today. Queensland Police urge anyone with information to come forward and assist by contacting Policelink or reporting anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
