Queensland Police have apprehended a 45-year-old man from Banora Point following a boat arson incident in Southport. The event, which unfolded on January 2, led to the complete destruction of the vessel, though no injuries were reported apart from minor burns sustained by the suspect himself.

According to the Queensland Police Service (QPS), the accused allegedly boarded the boat moored in the Broadwater, near North Street boat ramp, at approximately 3:30 PM. He is then believed to have deliberately set the boat on fire before fleeing the scene by swimming towards Wave Break Island. Authorities quickly responded, detaining the suspect shortly after the incident.

The man is now facing charges of arson and was scheduled for a court appearance at the Southport Magistrates Court on January 3.
