Detectives from the Bayside Criminal Investigation Branch are urgently seeking witnesses following a serious incident in Hamilton, Brisbane, on December 17, 2025. Authorities are investigating an alleged deprivation of liberty offence involving a woman and a rideshare driver. According to police reports, at approximately 12:20 PM, a woman boarded a rideshare vehicle on Kingsford Smith Drive and threatened the driver with a knife. She demanded to be driven to Masters Avenue, Victoria Point, and subsequently traveled to Coochiemudlo Island via ferry. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the ordeal. The suspect, a 33-year-old woman from Birtinya, was later apprehended by police on Coochiemudlo Island around 6:15 PM. She has been charged with two counts of obstructing a police officer and one count each of unlawful vehicle entry, issuing threats, and deprivation of liberty. Following her court appearance at Cleveland Magistrates Court on December 18, she was remanded in custody pending a further court date scheduled for February 19, 2026. In their continuous efforts to gather more evidence, Queensland Police are appealing to the public for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage around the intersection of Kingsford Smith Drive and Crescent Road at the time of the incident.
