A critical incident unfolded in Cairns today, involving a police officer shooting an armed man in the Kanimbla neighborhood. Officials report that the incident occurred around 10:30 AM when police were called to the intersection of Elphinstone Street and Ramsey Drive following reports of a man brandishing a knife.

Upon arrival, the situation escalated quickly as the man advanced towards the officers with the weapon. In response, one officer discharged their firearm, critically injuring the man. Immediate medical aid was administered by the police before the man was transported to Cairns Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
