An 18-year-old Beaconsfield man faces serious charges following a series of high-stakes traffic incidents and crimes in St Lawrence, Queensland, on November 6, as reported by Queensland Police.

The sequence of events began with a traffic accident involving a stolen Toyota Kluger on the Bruce Highway near Saint Lawrence North Road around 11:35 am. Police allege that the young man driving the Kluger fled the scene, assaulted a 77-year-old man, and proceeded to steal a Toyota Hilux that had stopped to assist.

The pursuit continued as police deployed a tyre deflation device to stop the Hilux, which briefly continued before the suspect abandoned it to steal a Nissan X-Trail from another bystander. Tragically, the vehicle was later discovered burnt out on Mackay Yakapari Road, Habana, with a deceased cat inside.

The suspect was apprehended early on November 7 at an address in Ooralea and now faces multiple charges. These include assault, arson, animal cruelty, robbery, and attempted robbery, alongside two counts of stealing a vehicle, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and three counts of stealing.

He is currently held in custody and is scheduled to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court on November 10. Queensland Police urge anyone with information to contact Policelink or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
