Georgetown University has announced the establishment of a permanent professorship in Ukrainian Studies at the Walsh School of Foreign Service. The inauguration event, attended by First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska, highlighted the university’s commitment to truth and justice in the face of challenges. During her address, Olena Zelenska expressed gratitude to Georgetown University for their dedication to Ukrainian Studies and emphasized the importance of global collaboration in pursuit of peace.

Olena Zelenska specifically thanked the Clinton family, Executive Director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, Ambassador Melanne Verveer, Dean Joel Hellman of the School of Foreign Service, and the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States for their support of Ukraine’s educational diplomacy. She stressed that Ukrainian Studies are not just about Ukraine but contribute to creating a just and secure world by increasing the global balance of truth and protecting against manipulation.

The Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies, initiated by Olena Zelenska in 2024, aims to foster collaboration among universities worldwide to study Ukraine comprehensively, free from disinformation or Russian narratives. This initiative seeks to enhance global understanding of Ukraine’s history, culture, economy, and international relations through educational programs, research projects, and academic exchanges. The establishment of the professorship at Georgetown University reflects a significant step towards promoting Ukrainian Studies on an international platform.
