In a significant development, police have charged a 33-year-old man following an alleged sexual assault incident in Maroochydore. The incident reportedly occurred late Monday night when the suspect entered a business on Maud Street, armed with a firearm, and threatened a female staff member.

The man is accused of sexually assaulting the woman before forcibly taking her in her vehicle. He allegedly drove the vehicle south towards Brisbane, but police were able to track and apprehend him at a park on Syd Lingard Drive in Buderim around 2 a.m. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment and professional support.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including three counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault while armed, and armed robbery, among others. He is scheduled to appear before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
