In a serious traffic incident that occurred in the Charters Towers area, the Queensland Police Service is appealing for dashcam footage to aid their investigation. On the afternoon of September 4, a cattle truck was traveling southwest on the Flinders Highway and slowed down due to smoke from a grass fire. This action led to a chain reaction, involving two additional vehicles. A second cattle truck collided with the rear of the first truck, and a 4WD subsequently crashed into the second truck. The driver and passenger of the second truck, both in serious condition, were airlifted to Townsville University Hospital. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant dashcam footage or who was present at the scene to come forward. The Queensland Police Service emphasizes the importance of road safety and reminds drivers of the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviors, which include speeding, driving under the influence, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction. These can significantly reduce the number of serious crashes on the road. The investigation remains ongoing as the authorities strive to ensure safer roads for all.
