The Queensland Police Service is conducting an investigation following the death of a 28-year-old man in custody in Peregian Springs. The incident occurred on the evening of August 18, 2025, when police responded to a disturbance at a local business. Upon arrival, officers found the man had forcibly entered the premises and was self-harming, resulting in serious injuries. Despite attempts to negotiate and provide first aid, the man became unresponsive and was declared deceased shortly after. The Ethical Standards Command is overseeing the investigation on behalf of the State Coroner, with independent oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission. No other individuals were harmed during the incident. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Policelink or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
