Detectives from the Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a 42-year-old man in connection with an assault that occurred in Mareeba in late June. The incident took place in a carpark on Atherton Street where a 78-year-old man sustained lacerations to his face and lower body. The assault, which allegedly happened around 12:45 pm on June 26, involved the assailant fleeing the scene on foot before police arrived. Following an investigation, the suspect was apprehended on August 7 and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Mareeba Magistrates Court on August 20. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers to aid in further investigations.
