In a dramatic turn of events, Queensland Police are investigating a suspicious fire that engulfed multiple units in West End, Townsville, on the night of July 3. Emergency services were alerted around 9:05 pm when a blaze was reported on Percy Street.

Upon their arrival, officers found a unit completely ablaze, with the fire spreading to an adjacent unit. During the rescue operations, police heard cries for help from a 54-year-old woman trapped inside the second unit. They managed to safely extract her, and she was subsequently treated for smoke inhalation at Townsville University Hospital.

Several officers also suffered from smoke inhalation, though no serious injuries were reported among them or other residents. A crime scene has been established as investigations into the cause of the fire continue. Police are urging anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to come forward to aid in the investigation.
